Chapter History
Isaac Parker Chapter supports the President National’s Project of preservation and digitization of our Society’s historical records. The chapter also supports the Texas Society State President’s Project of digitizing State and chapter records.
The chapter annually presents JROTC/ROTC medals to numerous schools and colleges in the surrounding area.
The chapter participates in the Wreaths Across America program, held every December. Fresh pine wreaths are dedicated and placed on the graves of all veterans in a local cemetery.
Several members have been, or currently are, Texas State Officers. [Deborah Parker – Past State President; Nancy Anthis – currently State Recording Secretary] {April 25, 2019}
The chapter is named for Isaac Parker, who was a War of 1812 soldier. He was a Sergeant in Captain Heeley’s (Captain Neeley?) Company of Tennessee Militia. Enlisted in Huntsville, Alabama. Isaac Parker built Fort Parker, near the present town of Groesbeck, TX. He was in the Battle of San Jacinto. Was a member of the 3rd, 4th, 6th and 7th Texas Congresses, representing Houston County. Parker County, TX, is named for him. A TX State Historical Marker, about 8 miles east of Weatherford, TX reads: “Pioneer, soldier and law maker. Born April 7, 1793 in Elbert County, Georgia. Came to Texas in 1833. Served in Elisha Camp’s Company in 1836. Member of Congress of the Republic of Texas, 1839-1845; of the Constitutional Convention in 1845. State Senator. Died April 14, 1883, in Parker County.”
The chapter was organized September 5, 2007, in Azle, Texas, by Deborah Hinckley.
